Here in Ireland we also call it a torch. Why is it called a flashlight? Not much good if it flashes, is it?!
The old lamp to the foot and light to the roadway....
All the best with the book!
what do you call a flashlight in your country?
i know in parts of europe (england) it is called a torch but i was wondering if it was called that in other countries.
the reason i ask is i have been creating/writing/illustrating a childrens book for the past three years and a flashlight/torch has become a very important part of the story.

i was brought up in the truth and have always found itstrange that people will invite ones that have "fallen away" over to their house for dinner etc with the hopes that that will bring them back in to the truth.. is it just me, or is this thinking weird???
do any other religions thinks that if a member of their church stps going, that all they need to do if have a bbq and the person will start going to church again???.
don't get me wrong, i understand the "encouragement" part of it, but i think that it is a weak gesture as well as i think that it is such a crappy "rule" that if someone doesn't respond to things like this, then they just drop them altogether.. i know a father whose son is not a jw, and he just chooses to have nothing to do with him.
Well lucky you! I've been on the way out for quite some time and haven't been invited to anything or even had any "encouraging" phone calls or other contact.
A bit upsetting considering we often had people over to our house for dinner and games. By their love you'll know them!
and is there somewhere else to go?
thks, patricia
AKAIK, its shutting down at the end of the year. There are a few other sites but I don't have the website addresses coz I'm on the laptop not my PC. One is called Jehovah's Witnesses recovery and I think the other one is www.jws.com for Jehovah's Witnesses support.
Hope that helps!
there were some witnesses that loved taking notes for every meeting.
whatever you would say, the note takers were busy as a bee writing down every word.
especially if you went out of town to give a talk, certain ones (only sisters) would take their note taking very very seriously.. another thing that used to get to me was when you'd see the same people every assembly on the platform giving a talk or being in a part.
When all the elders got a haircut before the CO visit. Seriously.
Dubs thinking everyone who turns up at the Memorial is a potential study or dub. You know sometimes the unbelieving mate might just go along to support their partner!
Doing rvs, esp on those u know only took the mags to get rid of us.
Nasty dogs on the ministry and the creature-loving dubs who used those high-pitched zappers on them and anything else that moved.
BO in hot cars on the minsitry. Ew!
as promised !.
for those that are new since last year we have done this for the last few years, what it involves is that those who want to join in will post to this thread and then pm me their name and address.
i will then collate the names and addresses and assign everyone a person to buy a gift for.
Me too! It'll be my 1st xmas pressie for over 20 years!
a currently in family member has been open to some conversation with me recently and the subject of money came up.
this person naively thinks the wt don't gotta lot o' dough and without going down apostate routes, i wasn't sure how to prove they are loaded.. anyway i said i thought they owned all the khs and assembly halls and that the value of all that property is a fair whack.
but she inquired of an elder in her cong who said each cong owns its own kh and if they wanted to sell it in the morning, a resolution on what to do with the proceeds would be put to the cong.
The KH in question, AFAIK, was financed by the cong paying back on a loan they got from WT. They completed payment on it about a decade ago.
But...interesting what you say about refurbs as this cong went thru a rather expense refurb with that hall about 4 years ago so I guess they're back in debt again.
anyone know when billy the ex is going to post his comments for this week's wt?.
i've actually prepared my wt for the first time in many months and found this study article particularly unpleasant.
i'm very interested in seeing the wt comments for it..
I see he's posted them in the Study Articles section.
comments you will not hear at the 10-12-08 wt study - august 15, 2008, pages 7-11 (maintain loyalty).
review comments will be in red.
wt material from today's wt will be in black.
14 Consider another possible situation. A sister may ask an elder if she should separate from her unbelieving husband. The elder will undoubtedly explain that the decision whether to separate or not is hers to make.
That's not true at all! Well, maybe its her decison (in much the same way that a victim's family can go to the authorities to report an abuser) but surely its not without possible disciplinary actions or lose of priviledges. Anyone who has been in a cong where a couple break up know that these things don't happen in the way this paragraph makes it sound. What ever happened to there only being 3 grounds for scriptural seperation? And flippant break-ups leaving the way open for immorality???

Excellent coverage Billy. I thoroughly enjoyed your comments and had many similar ones myself. Except for the part about fantasising about Solomon's women!
The overall lesson I got from it was that Jehovah will ignore a whole lifetime of hardwork and devotion if you get tricked into making even making one mistake and will reward you with a painful death. In complete contrast to the scrip in the NT about not forgetting our good works.
(Hebrews 6:10) 10 For God is not unrighteous so as to forget YOUR work and the love YOU showed for his name, in that YOU have ministered to the holy ones and continue ministering.
And why did Jehovah allow this old guy to come to the young guy in His name? Esp when his sole purpose was to trip him up! Again completely opposite to the NT
(James1:13) . . .When under trial, let no one say: "I am being tried by God." For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone.

Thanks.
